Hall of Fame

Five-time New Zealand Minisprint Champion Shaun Cooke is the first person ever to be inducted into the new Oval Superstars Minisprint Hall of Fame.

Although Oval Superstars is only four years old, it simply wouldn’t exist without the years of work put into the Minisprint class before it. This Hall of Fame was launched to celebrate the history that allows us to now do what we do best. The Hall of Fame will recognize commitment, passion and outstanding achievement within the class since its earliest days. It is it hoped that the launch of this will also encourage these values within the class in years to come.

When it came to choosing the first ever, and only 2017 inductee, there was one obvious stand out. Cooke, who won his fifth New Zealand Championship in 2013-14, retired from the Minisprint class in recent years and now competes in the TQ Midget class full time. During his time in the class, Cooke also took out six North Island championships, four New Zealand Grand Prix championships plus multiple regional and promotional titles.

Not only did Shaun win championships all over the country, but he also won four OST heat races – the fifth most on record – in his few appearances with the series. The Cooke family have also been long-time supporters behind the scenes with their family run business, Cooke Roofing, being a major supporter of Minisprint title events in the Waikato region for many years.

Oval Superstars congratulates Shaun Cooke on his achievements within the sport and welcomes him to the Oval Superstars Minisprint Hall of Fame!
